Fisk University Makes Renovations to Fisk Memorial Chapel

Built in 1892 and coming up on its 130th anniversary the Fisk Memorial Chapel was due for renovations and upgrades. In 2018-2019 the University began the process of restoring the building by placing central air in the historic building. These upgrades were followed by interior and exterior damage caused by the tornado in March 2020. The construction for these repairs were halted briefly due to the Global Pandemic

“The Memorial Chapel is one of the most iconic buildings on our campus and we are dedicated to doing everything we can to preserve it for many years to come,” said Fisk University President Dr. Vann Newkirk, Sr. “These upgrades were not only necessary for the building but extremely important for the University to maintain the historical integrity of Fisk’s campus.”

The University is now finishing the initial repairs to the building started in early 202o, which now include the repair and replacement of the roof and ceiling. The project will hopefully be finished and open for services by Spring 2022.
