Student Success Center

Supporting Students Every Step of the Way

Welcome to the Student Success Center, your hub for academic support and student resources. Whether you are a prospective or current student, we’re here to help you thrive throughout your college journey.

Our Mission

The Student Success Center partners with students to support their academic journey, sense of belonging, and long‑term success at Fisk University. Our approach is holistic, relationship‑focused, and built around practices that help college students stay motivated, learn effectively, and feel supported throughout their time at Fisk.

Student Success Center Services

The Student Success Center provides academic advising for first‑year, freshman, and transfer students (0–30 credit hours) to help you build a strong start at Fisk. Our staff guide students in selecting the right courses, registering for courses, understanding degree requirements, and making informed decisions that support their academic goals.

We offer proactive check‑ins and personalized support so students can stay on track and address challenges early. Our goal is to empower our students with the knowledge, confidence, and resources needed to make timely choices that keep them moving toward graduation.
First-year students can schedule advising and course registration appointments via NavigateFisk.

The Student Success Center provides a comprehensive network of academic support services designed to help Fisk students thrive in their coursework. Our goal is to ensure that every student has access to high‑quality, flexible, and personalized learning assistance throughout the semester.

Peer Tutoring Hub

The Peer Tutoring Hub is open during the fall and spring semesters and offers support across multiple subjects, including biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, computer science, business, accounting, and more. The Hub on the lower level of Spence Hall welcomes students for drop‑in tutoring sessions.

Our peer tutors are faculty‑recommended, high‑achieving Fisk students who complete formal training to ensure top‑tier academic support. The program is currently on track to earn CRLA national certification, reflecting our commitment to maintaining and strengthening academic excellence on campus.

Students can also review tutor bios, walk‑in hours, and available subjects, ensuring they connect with a tutor who best fits their needs.

How to Access Tutoring

Students can get academic support in three convenient ways:

  1. Drop‑In Tutoring (In‑Person)

Visit the Peer Tutoring Hub in the Spence Hall basement for flexible, walk‑in assistance—no appointment required. View Drop-In Tutoring Schedule here.

  1. Scheduled Tutoring (NavigateFisk)

Students may schedule appointments with peer tutors through NavigateFisk to secure support at a time that best fits their schedule.

Bulldog B.O.N.D.S. (Belonging, Outreach, Networking, Development, Success)

Bulldog B.O.N.D.S. is Fisk University’s peer mentoring network designed to help first‑generation, first‑year students make a strong transition to college. Through one‑to‑one matches with trained upper‑class mentors, students build community, connect to campus resources, and develop the habits that lead to academic and personal success.

Bulldog B.O.N.D.S fosters meaningful connections that promote student success through:

  • Belonging – Creating a welcoming and inclusive environment
  • Outreach – Proactively engaging and supporting students
  • Networking – Connecting students with peers, faculty, and campus resources
  • Development – Encouraging personal, academic, and leadership growth
  • Success – Supporting persistence and achievement throughout the first year

How It Works

Key Process Steps

  • Matching: Students and mentors complete brief interest and background surveys. Matches are facilitated on the Mentor Collective platform to align goals, interests, and availability.
  • Onboarding & Training: Mentors complete training focused on inclusive mentoring, resource referral, and goal‑setting.
  • Connection Cadence: Pairs connect regularly (in person or virtually) and use Mentor Collective tools for messaging, meeting notes, and check‑ins.
  • Staff Support: The Student Success Center (SSC) team monitors engagement and provides timely nudges and referrals. SSC also coordinates ongoing programming and community‑building activities throughout the academic year to strengthen mentor–mentee relationships and enhance student engagement.
