Appreciated Securities

Donating gifts of appreciated stocks, bonds, or mutual fund assets is a great way to help Fisk University move forward on its mission of graduating changemakers and leaders who will make their marks on the world. Not only will your gift make a lasting impact, but these types of transfers often do not incur capital gains on the appreciated value and may be eligible to claim the full, fair market value income tax deduction. (Always check with your adviser for specific tax advice.)

Through Your IRA

If you own an Individual Retirement Account and have not yet taken your required minimum distribution, you may be able to avoid income tax on your required withdrawal by donating your money directly to a qualified 501(c)(3) organization such as Fisk University. By making charitable donations directly from an IRA rather than taking required distributions that qualify as income, you may be able to keep your annual income down and qualify for other tax deductions.

Employer Matched Gifts

Double the impact of your gift to Fisk University! Many companies support a culture of philanthropy and encourage their employees to give back to the community through matching-gift programs. In some cases, donations from retirees, spouses, and board members are also eligible to be matched. Follow these steps to get started:
  1. Make a gift
  2. Wait to receive your tax deduction receipt.
  3. Ask your HR department about their gift-matching program. If you are instructed to send a matching gift form to Fisk University, please send the completed form to:
