For the Love of Fisk: Taylor Wilson

When Taylor Wilson walked across the stage as a 2023 Fisk University graduate, she carried with her more than a diploma. A Chicago native, she carried the legacy of opportunity, excellence, and leadership that defines Fisk University. Today, as a Senior Account Executive at Finn Partners, one of the nation’s top public relations and marketing agencies, Taylor stands as proof of what happens when talent meets preparation and support.
Her journey from Fisk’s campus to the corporate world began with an opportunity forged here on campus. Through Fisk’s Office of Career Planning and Development, Taylor learned that Finn Partners was building a new HBCU internship pipeline designed to connect students in communications, marketing, and public relations with career opportunities. She applied, was accepted as an intern, and quickly proved herself indispensable, working her way up to her current role.
“Fisk taught me to never back down from a challenge, to be optimistic, and put my best foot forward,” Taylor says. “I try to embody that every day.”
Those lessons —preparation, perseverance, confidence, and grace under pressure — now guide her in an industry built on storytelling and connection.
But Taylor’s love for communication began long before college. Growing up, she watched her great-aunt, Dory Wilson, a former supermodel turned Chicago public relations executive, use her voice and platform to shine a light on stories that mattered in her own PR firm. It was this example of storytelling as service that inspired Taylor to pursue PR, and it was Fisk that gave her the training, discipline, and network to bring that dream to life.
Taylor’s rise at Finn Partners underscores what Fisk has always done best: cultivating scholars who not only succeed in their chosen fields but lead with purpose. Her story is one of countless examples of how investment in Fisk’s students transforms potential into impact.
“We have so many examples of if you give us a chance and open the door for us to walk through, we will make an impact,” she says. “Fisk is multifaceted. Since our founding, we’ve been known to foster scholars in so many different lanes. Investing in the students here on campus is the greatest return on your investment.”
For Taylor, giving back to Fisk is personal. She sees the university not just as the place that launched her career, but as the community that believed in her from the start.
“We have thousands of students that will come out of this institution and make a huge impact on the world’s future,” she says. “Supporting Fisk means ensuring those futures are possible.”
