Fisk University announced it will join Apple’s Community Education Initiative

Today, Fisk University announced it will join Apple’s Community Education Initiative, working alongside Apple to bring coding and creativity experiences to the broader CITY community.

“The global world we live in is continuously changing and we want to offer our students the opportunity to be competitive in the digital era,” said Fisk University President Dr. Kevin Rome. “We are thrilled to be partnering with Apple to provide our students with access to resources and technology to further their educational development and position them for successful careers in the future.”

Coding and app development are a growing part of the global workforce, and we want to help make sure people of color, especially our students, are equipped with the knowledge and skills to be competitive, and successful.

Later this month, educators from Fisk will participate in Apple’s virtual Community Education Initiative Coding Academy to learn about coding and app development using Apple’s comprehensive curriculum, which utilizes its easy-to-learn Swift programming language.

As part of its Community Education Initiative, Apple is supporting Fisk University with equipment and professional development in an effort to expand coding and workforce development opportunities to Nashville.
