Richard Bowers is Director of Teacher Education and Special Education .He joined Fisk University in 2001 after developing the first Degree in Special Education at the university. Prior to this appointment, he has severed 20 years as an educator in the Tennessee Public Schools System .He has held memberships and is a former member of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) ; American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education Programs (AACTE), Council of Exceptional Children (CEC). He is presently serves on the Tennessee State Board of Examiners for Teacher Education Programs. He has and continues to receive grant funding in the area of special education and K-6 education in the area of mathematics which is supported by the Tennessee Department of Education and Educational Testing Services (ETS).
