Joseph Watkins

Joseph Watkins is entering his first year at Fisk University as Chief of Staff. His roles within the Office of the President include being the president’s aid, serving as his proxy on campus in his absence, and begin delegated special projects. Furthermore, Joseph Watkins has oversight of Information Technology Services, Campus Security, and Fisk University Athletics.

Joseph comes to Fisk University after working for two years at Lincoln University as Chief of Staff to President Kevin Rome. Watkins assumed similar duties at Lincoln and had oversight of Information Technology Services, the Lincoln University Police Department, as well as the Human Resources Department. At Lincoln, Joseph oversaw a budget of nearly $4.5 million and led a staff of 29 full-time equivalencies. Watkins was entrusted with coordinating several university-wide events, was part of a governmental advocating team which generated a 500 percent increase in state funding for the university’s land-grant status, as well as generated over $30,000 in sponsorship for Lincoln University Athletics.

Form 2013-2015 Joseph worked at Ohio University in several capacities including Alumni Relations Manager, Director of Bobcat Blackout and Green Fever, and Development Communications Manager for the Schey Sales Centre. In his role as Alumni Relations Manager Joseph was the primary contact for alumni; he managed their alumni database systems; and managed the layout, design, and publication of the annual alumni directory. As Director of both Bobcat Blackout and Green Fever, fundraising events which marketed Ohio football and basketball respectively, he generated in excess of $62,000 in revenue for the Center for Sports Administration. As Development Communications manager Joseph managed the Schey Sales Centre website, sent communications to corporate partners, and managed social media accounts.

Prior to his arrival at Ohio University the Virginia Beach, VA native worked for Duke University’s Recreation Department in 2013. Joseph also conducted an internship within Duke University’s Athletics Compliance office in the summer of 2012.

Watkins graduated from North Carolina Central University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreational Sports Management with a Business minor. Joseph continued his education to receive his Master of Business Administration and Master of Sport Administration from Ohio University in 2015.

Watkins currently resides in Nashville, TN and is the youngest of 11 siblings.
