Instructions for

MIDAC GRAMS_32 FTIR Spectrometer User 

1.     Turn on the instrument.

2.     Place your sample holder (including sample constraints without the sample) in the sample artment

        component of the spectrometer

3.   To collect a reference background spectrum:

    (a)   Start up your windows software.

    (b)  Double click on the MIDAC GRAM/32 icon to start GRAM/32.

    (c)   Open the GRAM/32 collect menu by clicking on it. Next choose Background Scanning.

    (d)  Name your Background file (click on the Name box and enter the filename).

    (e)   If desired, click on the Memo box and enter any comments for the background.

    (f)    Put the number of scans you would like to integrate them and enter your scanning range (normally, between 7000-400 cm-1).

    (g)   Select a number for Resolution (normally, 4 cm-1).

    (h)   Select a number for the Gain (normally, Auto).

    (i)     Click on either Absorb. or %Trans.

    (j)    Click on Ok Scan Backgd to begin background scanning.

    After all scans have been collected, co-added and transformed, the background spectrum will automatically be saved. Once all files have been properly saved and closed, the main menu is redisplayed.

4.     To collect a reference background spectrum:

    (a)   Place your sample in the sample compartment of the spectrometer.

    (b)  Click on the collect menu. Next, choose Scanning from the Collect menu.

    (c)   Enter all information. (Refer to the instructions for Collecting a Background Spectrum).

NOTE: Make sure you use the same Resolution, number of scans and Gain settings that were used to collect the Background Spectrum.

    (d)  Click on OK Scan to begin scanning the sample.

    Again, after all scans have been collected, co-added and transformed, the sample spectrum will automatically be saved. Once all files have been properly saved and closed, the main menu is redisplayed. You can collect another sample by repeating steps (a) through (d). There is no need to collect the background

    If any of the above instructions is unclear, please contact Dr. Burger. By following the above, there is a good chance that operators will remain physically unharmed and an unnecessary deterioration in the performance, damage and downtime of equipment will be prevented.
