The First Annual Harambee
Conference
“Toward a Solution:
Increasing Awareness, Producing
Justice”
April 13 – 15, 2007

For
65 years Fisk University’s Race Relations Institute has been one
of the leading institutions facilitating racial dialogue,
proactive programming, research and activism. We celebrate our
legacy with this multidisciplinary conference. We are soliciting
concept and research papers, panels, workshops, articles for
inclusion in a forthcoming publication, and joint grant
proposals. The theme for our inaugural year is “Toward a
Solution: Increasing Awareness, Producing Justice,” as we are
very interested in developing and implementing solution-oriented
scholarship, programs, and publications. We welcome proposals of
500 words or less. Please include the name(s) of the author(s),
institutional affiliation and contact information (i.e., e-mail
address and phone number). The following categories are
particular areas of interest:
- Culturally specific intervention
strategies
- Research including diverse populations
- Educational and school-based issues
and solution strategies
- Economic development models/analysis
- Political concepts/strategies
- Rites of passage/socialization
processes
- Spirituality
- Academic achievement
- Ethical leadership
- Professional development
- Sankofa
- Community building
- Research with race, racial prejudice,
and/or racism as a major variable
We invite students, professors and other
professionals to participate in this historic event. It will
take place
April 13 – 15,
2007 at historic Fisk University in Nashville, TN.
