Nashville, Tenn. – February 20, 2012 – Fisk University is seeking online votes for grants to preserve and beautify its historic campus, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, as part of Home Depot’s third annual RETOOL YOUR SCHOOL program that awards funds to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
This year’s program includes one $50,000 Tier One Grant, eleven $10,000 Tier Two Grants and one $25,000 Campus Pride Grant for the university project proposal receiving the most online votes. Online voting is available now through April 10, 2012, at www.retoolyourschool.com and participants may vote once a day for Fisk University.
If awarded the Tier One Grant, Fisk plans to upgrade the student lounge area in Spence Hall and enhance the main entrance to campus if awarded a Tier Two Grant. Fisk also proposes to install seating and an irrigation system, as well as improve overall landscaping across campus if awarded the Campus Pride Grant.
A panel of judges will evaluate each university’s Tier One and Tier Two proposals, taking into consideration the number of online votes, the depth of each proposal and the school’s ability to execute the project within the $50,000 or $10,000 budgets, respectively.
Grant recipients will be announced on or around May 4, 2012.
In 2010, Fisk University won a $10,000 Tier II Grant, which was used to improve the landscape around Jubilee Hall and along 17th Avenue North.
