As an undergraduate student, Ms. Sims studied sociology with a minor in psychology at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee. Also as an undergraduate, she was actively in involved in a number of campus activities such as Project Get Involved, Minority Orientation Leader, Minority Orientation Student Coordinator, National Builders Coalition Institution (student diversity trainer), a member of Iota Upsilon Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated and a host of other student organizations. Currently, Ms. Sims is pursuing her Masters of Education in Counseling Psychology at Tennessee State University.
Ms. Sims began her career in student financial aid as a student worker at Austin Peay State University. Upon graduating, Ms. Sims was asked to apply for a permanent Financial Aid Counselors position within that office. Since that time Ms. Sims has held various Financial Aid positions as Financial Aid Counselor and Financial Coordinator at a host of Higher Education Institutions such as Austin Peay State University, Tennessee State University, The Art Institution of Tennessee - Nashville Campus, and Columbia State Community College before coming to Fisk University.
At Fisk University, Ms. Sims was promoted to Assistant Director of Student Financial Aid under the leadership of Mrs. Mary Chambliss. In August of 2013, Ms. Sims was promoted to the Interim Director, the position she is currently holding. Ms. Sims was able to bring a host of skills and knowledge to the Financial Aid Office at Fisk University. She continues to bring ideas to assist in the further advancement of electronic processes and procedures to help the office move forward becoming more productive.
