Native Baltimorean Michael Powell retired from the United States Army after 20 years of service. He began his career in library services at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee. A member of the Fisk Family for more than three years, Mr. Powell is a library assistant in the Technical Services Department. In addition to cataloging and processing books and other items, he sends and receives materials via our collaborative Interlibrary Loan partners. Mr. Powell also assists in the preservation of historic and at-risk photographs in the Fisk Special Collections and Archives. As a colleague instructor and advisor for the LYRASIS/HBCU Photographic Preservation Project, he teaches image preservation techniques and presents information about the progress and outcomes of the Fisk photograph conservation project to other HBCUs.
