Plan A Visit

Fisk University always welcomes visitors to campus. Visiting the Fisk University campus is a great way to get to know the rich history, meet our dynamic students and faculty and determine if Fisk is the right fit for your aspirations.

All visits are scheduled through the Office of Admission. Campus visits are scheduled Monday through Friday during normal business hours except during holidays, exam periods, reunion weekend, and the beginning of the school term in late August.

During a campus visit, you will be treated to a tour of our historic campus led by a Fisk University Student Ambassador and an information session hosted by an Office of Admission representative. Family tours begin at the Office of Admission, 2nd Floor, Cravath Hall. Groups tours typically begin at the Fisk Memorial Chapel or in the Appleton Room of Jubilee Hall. What follows are a few guidelines that will help ensure that your visit is as informative as possible:

  • Groups will meet their tour guide(s) at the front doors of the Fisk Memorial Chapel. This will prevent any unplanned interruption of regular activities that may be on-going in the facility.
  • Gentlemen are expected to remove all non-religious head covering when entering campus buildings.
  • Fisk University representatives are not amplified during campus walking tours so it is important that visitors adhere to the “one-person speaks at a time” rule. Excessive, non-relevant chatter may lead to tour interruption or suspension.
  • Please have a copy of your official confirmation letter when you arrive
  • If needed, groups should send just one representative to the Office of Admission
  • Late arrivals should contact the Office of Admission; late arrivals of more than 15 minutes will receive their scheduled tour as a Student Ambassador

When guided tours are not available, you will be offered a self-guided tour. If you are scheduled for a self-guided tour, you will receive a campus map and other information on the University. Those under the age of 21 who are visiting the University on a “self-guided” tour must be accompanied by a chaperone at all times. Self-guided groups must visit the Office of Admission to check-in and receive any pertinent information prior to the start of their campus tour.

When planning a visit to the institutions of higher learning in Nashville, please be thoughtful regarding the time necessary to have an informative visit on each campus. This may mean that you have to schedule two visits daily or begin visits earlier. Plan to be with us for at least 90 minutes. Larger groups may take more time. The Office of Admission reserves the right to suspend guided tours when the visitor has less than 45 minutes.

Beginning September 1, 2008, tours will be scheduled:

  • 9, 10, and 11 am Monday, Wednesday, and Friday;
  • 9 and 11 am Tuesday and Thursday
  • 2pm and 3pm Monday - Friday

To schedule your visit, please contact the Office of Admission toll-free at 888.702.0022 (9am – 5pm CST Monday through Friday) or send an email message to admit@fisk.edu. When you submit information, please have all pertinent contact information (including number of people in your party, email and phone contact) as well as prospective dates available for an efficient response.

The Office of Admission observes a 24-hour cancellation notice. The cancellation can be delivered by phone or via admit@fisk.edu.

Other Information:

Parking:

All guests will be allowed to park in available spaces on campus. Most frequently, those spaces will be behind the Franklin Library off of Jackson Street, and behind DuBois Hall (between Dubois and New Livingstone Hall). Tour buses will be guided to available parking by University Public Safety.

Dining On Campus:

he Office of Admission is not responsible for scheduling visitor dining on campus during a tour. Once your tour is scheduled, please contact the Food Services Department at 615.329.8791. The Food Services department requires a two-week notice in order to accommodate guests and the typical meal is $7.00 per person.

Class/Faculty Visits:

The Office of Admission welcomes visiting families to experience Fisk from the academic perspective. In order to arrange a visit to class or schedule a meeting with a faculty member, please make your tour request at least two weeks in advance. Make sure to inform the Admission representative that you are interested in visiting a class or specific faculty member. Requests to visit a class or a faculty member will not be accommodated on-site.

Walk-Ins:

As much as the Office of Admission would like to be able to accommodate those who walk-in, our limited staff prevents us from effectively showcasing the University. Those who “walk in” will be accommodated as Student Ambassadors are available and may cause some inconvenience.
