What to bring

You should bring pens to take notes, and spending money if you want to make a stop in the Spirit Store for Fisk gear. In addition, you should bring any documents necessary to complete your Admissions file, financial aid paperwork and housing paperwork. There are no formal functions, so casual wear is acceptable dress for the day. Because you will be walking to several buildings around campus, we recommended that you wear comfortable walking shoes.

What to expect

Proficiency and Placement Tests

Completion of the Computer Proficiency Test- This MANDATORY, 50 minute web-based, (required for graduation from Fisk University). A student will receive ONE PASS/FAIL attempt grade for the test, where passing marks are 60% or higher. If the student fails to pass the test, she/he MUST enroll in CSCI 100 (Introduction to Computing), or an equivalent course (e.g. BAD 110 – Business Information Systems).

Completion of the Language Proficiency Test- Fisk University requires demonstration of proficiency in a foreign language at the intermediate level to graduate with a B.A. degree.  The results of the examination are used to determine the appropriate beginning level of your foreign language class.

Signing up for Classes and Getting your Class Schedule

After meeting with your advisor, you will register for your classes for the fall. You do not need to schedule an appointment in advance. The appointment will be set for you and put in your schedule for the day that you receive at check–in.

Residence Hall and Roommate Assignments

Students will not receive their hall assignment or roommate assignment until this summer. These assignments will be sent through email and will include roommate contact information. Representatives from the Office of Residence Life will be available to answer questions, collect paperwork and receive deposits.

Financial Aid information

Staff from the Office of Financial Aid and Business Office will be available all day for appointments on Friday and Saturday during both Registration weekends.
