The department has the following goals:
  • to provide students with a broad knowledge and understanding of the dynamics of political life as it is manifested in the various institutional and behavioral forms;
  • to provide students with the capacity for empirical research and analysis in both the public and private sectors of society;
  • to provide students with the ability to seek solutions to problems of global and domestic political significance;
  • to acquaint the students with the need to create new knowledge through research and scholarly activity;
  • to equip and prepare students for employment in the public and private sectors of society; and
  • to equip and prepare students for graduate and professional schools

Students graduating with a B.A. in political science will:
  • demonstrate an understanding of the basic vocabulary of politics and government, including the major concepts, principles, processes, theories, and ideologies of the discipline;
  • have an understanding of the basic operations of the major institutions of government and how these institutions affect and are affected by the polity;
  • to acquaint the students of the need to explain and predict the behavior of the various individuals, groups, and other entities in the political process;
  • have an understanding of the formulation and implementation of the policy-making process;
  • demonstrate proficiency in the dynamics of political life.government and how these institutions affect and are affected by the polity;
  • to acquaint the students of the need to explain and predict the behavior of the various individuals, groups, and other entities in the political process;
