The Fisk University Choir was founded in 1879 by Professor Adam K.
Spence and was known originally as the “Mozart Society.” The University
Choir is a mixed chorus, the oldest organization of its kind in
Tennessee. In past years the University Choir was featured frequently
on national radio broadcasts, and it continues to provide music for
University Chapel services, an annual Christmas Carol service, a
concert in connection with the annual arts festival, and occasional
performance tours. The University Choir cultivates a diverse
repertoire, and its members become acquainted with a wide range of
choral music genres. Membership is open to all interested students.
The Fisk University Choir currently makes annual tours through Florida
and Chicago. In March 2007 they performed in Nassau, Bahamas.
