The Department of Modern Foreign Languages was awarded its first
Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant for the 2006-2007
academic year. Zablon Mgonja, our Fulbright Scholar, is from Dar es
Salaam, Tanzania and is a graduate of the University of Dar es Salaam.
His areas of expertise are linguistics and geography. He is currently
teaching two classes: one in Kiswahili and the other in Tanzanian
culture. In December Fisk University held a reception in honor of the
Tanzanian Ambassador to the United States, His Excellency Andrew
Daraja, who was in Nashville to celebrate Tanzanian Independence Day
with the Middle Tennessee Tanzanian Association. Ambassador Daraja
visited our campus to meet with our Fulbright Scholar and the rest of
the university community.
