88.1FM WFSK is an educational community-based radio station, owned andoperated by Fisk University. Serving the public since 1973, 88.1FM ishome to 21-different specialty programs and 30-volunteers. Ourvolunteers serve in numerous capacities, in both on-air and behind thescenes, are both Fisk students and from the community at-large.
WFSK is the first African American FM radio station on the dial in Nashville, Tennessee.
88.1FM WFSK has become a top 20-radio station in the Nashville market, 43rd in the U.S. With a Smooth & Contemporary Jazz music format, talk programs and cross-cultural programming, WFSK serves both the needs of both Fisk University and the Nashville community.
In 2006, WFSK has been named “The Best HBCU Radio Station” by the Black Press Association; and was awarded “The Best College Radio Station in Nashville” at the 10th Annual March of Dimes/Curb Records Achievement in Radio (A.I.R.) Awards. Both accomplishments were “firsts” for the historic radio station. In 2007, WFSK was again awarded “The Best College Radio Station – Nashville” at the 11th Annual AIR Awards.
WFSK, an Associated Press radio station is a broadcast affiliate of Public Radio International (PRI). PRI broadcasts the nationally syndicated Tavis Smiley Show. Additionally, WFSK proudly carries The Dr. Bobby Jones Gospel Countdown from the American Urban Radio Network, Jazz From Lincoln Center with Wynton Marsalis, and the regionally syndicated talk program “What’s the 411? With Sharon Kay” which broadcasts live from the studios of WFSK, twice weekly.
88.1FM is also a member of the Black College Radio Association, Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS), and Tennessee Association of Broadcasters (TAB).
