On Saturday, October 7, 2006, as part of the Jubilee Day celebration,
Fisk University sponsored the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge (HCASC)
Campus Tournament. Ten teams of Fisk students competed to be the Fisk
University HCASC

Campus
Champion. After eight rounds of competition, “Insight” beat “Another
Bad Creation” 145-105 in a close final. Team Insight consisted of
captain Hilary Davis, Ashley Hughley, Deltrick Johnson, and Mia Long.
The winning team won $100, while the 2nd place team, consisting of
captain Victoria Hamilton, Kimberly Brown, Autumn Henderson, and Jeshua
Rehming, won $60. The consolation round was won by “Utterly!!” over
“More Intellectual Than The Incredibles” (MITTI) 145-90, earning them
3rd place and $40.
The HCASC tournament was conducted with the help of Marcellus Brooks,
Richard Carson, Adenike Davidson, Phyllis Freeman-Junior, Robert
Nasatir, Phil Neely, Jonathan Stadler, and Kent Wallace. The volunteers
enjoyed themselves while acting as moderators, scorekeepers, judges,
timers, and announcers. Tournament directors Richard Carson and
Jonathan Stadler were pleased with the participation by faculty, staff,
and students.
Begun
in 1989, over 50,000 students have competed in Honda Campus All-Star
Challenge. The questions cover everything: from traditional academic
areas, including science, literature, history, geography, religion,
philosophy, social sciences and the arts to current events, general
knowledge, sports and popular culture. African American history and
culture is also featured.
Fisk University is among eighty-nine HBCUs eligible for this
year’s Honda Campus All-Star Challenge. Sponsored by American Honda
Motor Co., Inc., Honda Campus All-Star Challenge is sanctioned by the
National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education (NAFEO)
and the Association of College Unions International (ACUI).
The next step for the Fisk HCASC program is to begin practicing and
choosing a team to represent Fisk at the National Championship
Tournament (NCT), happening in Orlando, FL on April 12-16, 2007. Teams
that compete in the NCT earn $3,000 for their school, with the
potential of earning $50,000 if they are the national champions.
Students that are interested in being a part of the Fisk HCASC Club are
encouraged to contact Dr. Stadler (615-329-8607, jstadler@fisk.edu) to
find out about the practice schedule.
