Library HoursOn-line Public Access Catalog (OPAC)

This resource is the key to accessing library holdings. This systemallows students to search the catalog by author, title, keyword,subject, words in a title, author, and title, and reserve lists.

Access Services Desk

Located on the first floor. The circulating books are located onthe second and third floors. Students with valid IDs may check outbooks and reserve materials. Items on reserve must be used in thelibrary.

Reference

Located on the first floor. This is a collection of reference materialsincluding books, and periodicals. These materials do not circulate.

Special Collections and Archives

Located on the second floor. The collections of rare materialsdraw patrons and scholars from around the world. The African-Americancollection, which includes books, manuscripts, archives, and oralhistories, is a major source for the study of the African-Americanexperience. These materials must be used in the Special Collectionsreading room.

Government Documents

The John Hope and Aurelia E. Franklin Library is a partial documentdepository of publications by the United States government. Thecollection contains printed materials, microfiche, CD-ROMs, andperiodicals.

Access to other collections

Access to the catalogs of libraries in the Nashville Area LibraryAlliance is available online through Project Athena. Circulating bookscan then be requested through interlibrary loan. In addition, FiskFaculty and staff have access to Watkins School of Art and Design andVanderbilt’s Libraries including direct loan privileges (Vanderbilt’sEskind Biomedical Library is excluded). Ask at the Access Services deskabout Watkins School of Art and Design and how to obtain a Vanderbiltaccess card.
