In 1999, for a period of two years, I took the responsibility of Chairman of the Steering Committee of the SPIE International Technical Group on Penetrating Radiation
This working group has a present membership of 116 scientists and engineers with a common interest in developing nuclear imaging systems using multichannel detection and signal processing, nonrefractive optics (collimators, coded apertures, etc.), sensor characteristics, detector materials and image reconstruction techniques.
The technology of x- and gamma-ray imaging finds applications in diverse fields including nuclear medicine, radiology, radiography, astroparticle physics, x-ray and gamma ray astronomy, geophysical sensing, nuclear arms treaty verification, contraband detection, nondestructive testing and industrial process control.
